Support the Seed-to-Table Afterschool Experience & cooking show pilot

Youth aged 10 to 20 are invited to take part in the Seed-to-Table After-School Experience to be held on seven consecutive Tuesday evenings after school from 4-7pm September 30 – November 18. This immersion in our local food system explores urban gardens, rural farms, restaurants and other food-based businesses.  Participants will learn many new skills while harvesting crops, exploring supermarkets and learning how to shop affordably, learn valuable cooking techniques, seasonal recipes and self-sufficiency in the kitchen; all while working side-by-side with experienced nutrition experts, local chefs, farmers and urban gardeners at CCE Tompkins’ well equipped teaching kitchen at 615 Willow Ave. The program offers dinner for every participant, rides home to those in need and seeks to assemble a diverse group of youth who will learn, grow and cook together. Your donation will support scholarships for low-income participants, transportation and food costs, and will help us to make the program financially self sufficient in the near term.

During the last week of August 2014, we piloted the Seed-to-Table Summer Experience with an eager group of 15 youth aged 10-19 years old. During our last day of the program, we filmed a cooking competition between four teams that were formed earlier in the week. We were excited to be joined by PEAKS founder, food blogger and recent Food Network Star competitor Emma Frisch who served as the host of our show. The teams had one hour to cook a dish suitable for the Agava kids menu and our winners created something very special. Help us fund the completion of our very own food show and find out who won!
